from 'My Computer News' posted to all Portfolio Reporter customers in the first week of June 1998 ...
Heres our first newsletter for some time, with good news for all
Portfolio Reporter users
PORTFOLIO REPORTER ready for the new millennium NOW!
Recently weve received many calls from our customers about how Portfolio Reporter will cope with the so-called Millennium Bug.
All data in the current versions of Portfolio Reporter are stored with the full date (eg 12/3/1999) - even though you only see the abbreviated date (eg 12/3/99) in many cases. To make it easier for you to enter transactions only the last two digits of the year have been necessary up to now but as the end of the millennium approaches that needs to change.
Weve now released Portfolio Reporter v1.7 which makes the changes necessary to ensure that your portfolio management will continue into the next century.
In addition, weve added some oft-requested features like faster portfolio selection, faster switching between portfolios, password protection and backup your important data to a single floppy disk.

Whats new in v1.7
Portfolio ReporterWHEN IS IT AVAILABLE?
Right now! We have copies of version 1.7 on the shelves ready to ship the same day as your paid order arrives. This update costs only $39 (postage paid).
EASY TRANSITION
One of the reasons that Portfolio Reporter has continued to be popular over the years is that all of the key people working on the project are personal investors themselves.
As well as making, selling and supporting Portfolio Reporter, Peter Deegan, Trish McCabe and Peter McDonell all use the program for their own investments. They understand the day-to-day needs of customers from their own experience.
Theres no question that all your portfolios and settings will always seamless move to an updated version of Portfolio Reporter automatically.
"We all understand how valuable your investment information is and the time taken to enter it - weve done it ourselves!" said support manager, Peter McDonell.
As in the past, the update to Portfolio Reporter v1.7 picks up all past portfolio information without any special work by users. Also, the menus and commands are largely unchanged.
"Anyone familiar with Portfolio Reporter will have no trouble with v1.7." says Trish McCabe, MCCs Sales Manager.
HELP IS A PHONE CALL AWAY
One of the most important parts of Portfolio Reporter has always been the phone support. Some of you would have spoken to our support wizard Peter McDonell who has operated the support service for many years.
Unlike many companies, were happy to provide that service so that you get the most from Portfolio Reporter and have peace of mind knowing that help is just a phone call away, if you ever need it.
Providing ongoing phone support is a significant cost burden for My Computer Company. Most companies now charge for ongoing support but we dont intend to. Support is available for all Portfolio Reporter users for one year from the date of purchase (full product or upgrade). Purchasing the v1.7 update will entitle you to another year of access to phone support.
For many years, the company name has been giving the false impression of a one man operation. MCC has a group of talented people working on Portfolio Reporter
. Some of you will have spoken to Peter McDonell who does technical support, Trish McCabe handles sales and enquiries while Claude Almer provides programming magic.REGISTERED USERS -
ORDER THE UPGRADE ONLINEPRICES FROM THE INTERNET
These days anyone with an Internet connection can get the latest share prices from around the world in a few seconds. Our Portfolio Reporter support master, Peter McDonell tells how he follows his portfolio from the World Wide Web and updates his own asset prices.
"I use the Macquarie Inner Circle service to track the latest share prices on my Australian assets. With the latest stock prices showing in the Windows web browser I start Portfolio Reporter in another window. The two sit side-by-side as I update the prices in Portfolio Reporter - the whole thing takes only a few minutes. "
There are many share price services on the Internet, your choice depends on your need for the latest data (real time latest prices cost more than delayed information).
In Australia we use Macquarie Inner Circle or the Australian Stock Exchange For overseas (mainly American) prices and indicies visit Microsoft Investor
or ZD Inter@ctive Investor .Want to connect to the Internet?
My Computer Company can help install an Internet connection (plus a modem, if
required) and teach you how to use it (Sydney customers only). Call us on (02) 9565-1991
for details.
TELL A FRIEND AND SAVE
The most gratifying orders for us are those that come on recommendation from an existing user. Its great to hear of people telling others about the system.
Those extra sales of Portfolio Reporter help all users by ensuring the continued financial viability of the program to fund future development and support services.
As part of the release of v1.7 wed like to invite all Portfolio Reporter users to tell their friends, neighbors and relatives about the program. We know many of you have been meaning to do it - nows the time to act!
Until 15 July 1998 you can recommend Portfolio Reporter and theyll pay only $145 - saving $50 off the normal price. Please pass along an order form, it has all the important information on the program.
Please note that demonstration disks of Portfolio Reporter are no longer available. All copies of the program come with an unconditional 30 day money back guarantee - if not fully satisfied you can return the package (with the manual unmarked) for a refund. We are rarely asked for refunds.
